Exoplanet
A planet that orbits a star outside the Solar System.
Redshift
The phenomenon where light from an object is increased in wavelength, or shifted to the red end of the spectrum, often used in determining the speed and distance of stars or galaxies.
Event Horizon
A theoretical boundary around a black hole beyond which no light or other radiation can escape.
Dark Matter
A form of matter thought to account for approximately 85% of the matter in the universe, not directly observable as it does not emit or interact with electromagnetic radiation.
Pulsar Wind Nebula
A nebula that is powered by the wind of a pulsar, a highly magnetized, rotating neutron star.
Hawking Radiation
Theoretical radiation predicted to be emitted by black holes, due to quantum effects near the event horizon.
Gravitational Lensing
The distribution of matter between a distant light source and an observer, capable of bending the light from the source as the light travels towards the observer.
Solar Flare
A sudden eruption of intense high-energy radiation from the sun's surface, often associated with sunspots and causing electromagnetic disturbances on the Earth.
